Log Yard
All of our logs are North Carolina hardwoods and are harvested within a 75 mile radius of Woodleaf, NC. They consist of an assortment of oak, hickory, ashe, and maple. Typically, all logs are allowed to season for at least 6 months before being split and bundled into firewood. The split bundles are then allowed to season a minimum of an additional 3 months before being shipped to consumers. This process ensures that all firewood purchased by consumers is dry and will be perfectly suited for burning.
Splitting
All of our logs are split using a custom machine that we both designed and constructed. Logs are first cut to length and then pushed through a splitter head that produces the individual firewood logs. These logs then pass through a conveyor system where individuals at each wrapping stations hand select the best pieces and construct them into bundles. Each bundle is then wrapped and a handle is attached for the consumer's convenience.
Bundles
Once each bundle has been check to ensure that it meets all standard requirements, they are hand stacked on wooden pallets. Each pallet contains 75 bundles. The pallets are then wrapped in a manner that allows for adequate air flow between bundles, substantially reducing the possibility of mold.
Storage and Shipment
All pallets are then dated to ensure proper rotation in our inventory and housed in a covered, open-front facility. We offer both delivery and pick up options; prices will be adjusted accordingly. Please see "Shipment Options" on our products page for more details.
Additional Heat Treating Option
We also have heat treating facilities and offer that as an additional option for our firewood.
Currently, all firewood entering the states of Florida is required to have been heat treated and must meet Florida's 5B-65 regulations. We are certified as meeting these standards under the North Carolina Pest Compliance Agreement #2483. Under these requirements, all firewood heat treated at our facility is heated to 160°F for 75 minutes. All heat treated firewood also contains a yellow colored label specifying its compliance with the above regulations and are stored in a separate area of our facility. |
